Thomas Cannuli - Preparing for a Big Poker Tournament - WSOP 2015

I'm going over the November Nine and saw a Thomas Cannuli video on Youtube. In it, he talks about where he is right now at the pinnacle of success in the poker world or at least at its doorstep and how it feels. It was so good, I wanted others to look and get the feel of a "winning poker player's" approach.
The video is an interview from WSOP. He talks about how he is greatful, blessed and lucky that everything happened the way it did. He was in the WSOP last year but busted out at 690th place or so. So he's right to credit everything that happened the way it did. In fact it's easy to get a great hand but to maintain a grip and win really is a blessing. All of us have gotten great hands ie. four of a kind, full houses, straights but don't always turn it into winning a tournament. Keeping an edge is a blessing.
He also mentions he's taking a month or so off. Sometimes it's great to do just that . Don't play everyday or every waking minute. Get out, broaden horizons and take your mind off the game so you don't burn yourself out. And in the process you'll keep yourself more excited about the game. After he's going to play like crazy and sharpen up. And he's got great mentors to help him.
His motivation for playing? He says it simply is money. Money is what makes the world go around in poker and keeps you playing. Without money you won't be in the game. He also says his other reason for loving winning at poker is that it keeps him as his own boss. He says that while wearing a Hugo Boss tshirt with the word BOSS noted bodly in center. And this is a great reason to be a winning poker player. You don't answer to anybody. Here's the video.

Russian businessman Mikhail Smirnov Folds Four of a Kind

During the Big One for One Drop poker tournament, Russian businessman Mikhail Smirnov folded four-of-a-kind, commonly referred to as quads, against another businessman, John Morgan. The play took place during the first day of thd Big One for One Drop Texas Hold ‘Em tournament, where players fork over the highest buy-in in World Series of Poker history, $1 million. One million clams buy-in that's right.

Smirnov, who was holding an eight of hearts and eight of diamonds in his hand, entered into the hand with Tom Dwan and Morgan. The flop revealed a seven of spades, jack of spades and eight of clubs. Smirnov, with three eights, bet $50,000, Dwan folded and Morgan called the bet.

The turn showed an eight of spades, the fourth for Smirnov, and created a potential straight flush on the board. Smirnov bet $200,000 and Morgan again called the bet, which was approximately the size of the pot.

The final card, the river, was a king of spades. Smirnov again led out with a bet of $700,000 before Morgan came over the top and went all-in for about $2M more. Smirnov then folded his four eights, face-up, giving Morgan the pot. He folded and no one knows what Morgan had in his hand.

Smirnov’s four eights could only have lost to a nine and ten of spades. Morgan did not reveal if he had the straight flush, but Smirnov defended his play. Morgan never revealed his hand.I would have held on just because of probability.
I wasn't at the table so I couldn't see the poker clues that Morgan must have read. But I'm assuming he read his fellow player well and knew Mikhail Smirnov was a lucky player not a skilled player and that he was so rich his experience might have been lacking. Let's see how the final table goes which is July 3 , 2012. This tournament is a charity event to raise awareness of need for clean water.

The Big One Poker Tournament - the largest buy-in in Poker history - Wsop
